Rockland County resident Thomas Peragine, age 19, of Stony Point, was charged in Stony Point on Thursday, Oct. 24.
According to Lt. Daniel Schoales of the Stonyy Point Police, he was charged after deputies responded to a home in Stony Point for a welfare check, believing the woman was in danger.
While on the scene, Peragine was present and placed under arrest for a previous domestic incident with the same woman, Schoales said,
The Haverstraw Police Department reported the previous domestic incident to the Stony Point Police on Sunday, Oct. 20.
An investigation found that Peragine was involved in a verbal dispute with the woman who was a girlfriend when he struck her several times with closed fists and placed his hands around her neck, making it difficult to breathe, Schoales said.
The victim had several visible injuries.
Peragne was charged with:
- Obstruction of breathing
- Assault
- Harassment
He was processed and arraigned in The Stony Point Justice. He was sent to the Rockland County Jail for $2,500 bail and a return court date of Tuesday, Nov. 12.
